Freestone vs. Clingstone

Our Peaches | Freezing & Canning | Proper Care | Freestone vs. Clingstone

Did you know that different varieties of peaches are categorized as either Freestone or Clingstone? Basically, the categorization comes whether the fruit "clings" to the pit or doesn't.

A clingstone peach has fruit that does not fall off the pit. These peaches are fantastic for eating, but aren't the best for canning and freezing. These varieties are available Mid-May to Early June.

A freestone peach has fruit that falls right off the pit. These peaches are perfect for eating, canning, and freezing. You just slice the peach down the middle, and pull it right off the pit. They're available Mid-June to Mid-August.
