With lot of hugs, helpful hands, and warm spirits, Stephen and I left the table with feelings of home and family in our hearts. This came at the end of an enchanting evening at Twelve at the Table.
Nashville has a special secret...the Coates Family. Evie Coates and her utterly charming family have brought this town magic one evening at a time, and we had the honor of attending one of these evenings recently thanks to a new mystery friend of ours that we will soon meet.
As Stephen and I prepared for the evening, I thought of what this night would entail. We were about to partake in sharing food (amazing food) with neighbors we didn’t know and strangers we would soon call friends. We were about to be welcomed to the table to share and to listen. We were entering into laughter and giggles and sheer merriment. This evening was about life being lived well.
And we lived richly that night.
In reflection, from the elegance of the table, to the meal (and oh those courses!), it was the hands of those that prepared our plates with finger licking goodness that makes my heart melt. There was a sweetness to the air when they graced us with their presence and you felt their love multiply. I consider it a complete honor to call this family of artisans friends and am amazed at how close to home I feel in their company.
The evening at the table could have been a dream. It was truly profound to see kin create such beauty with deep gratitude and thoughtfulness for themselves and their guests. Invest in this evening; it is something of a spiritual experience.
until next time
